These cakes are going to heaven!

Recently out of boredom, before I started this whole project, I created my own version of Chocolate Mudpie. But of course me being me, I love creating something different that could excite other people's taste buds! So on my 3rd Bazzar at Taylor's University, I decided to do the unthikable: Chocolate Walnut Mudpie with Vanilla Frosting and Caramel Sauce. The bazaar usually started at 11am. The cake was gone in less than an hour! There were 16 pieces of them! GONE! And then I decided to bring them to the next bazaar, but this time I already have these wonderful students lining up waiting for my cupcake and my MUDPIE!
The support that I got from these students are overwhelming...I enjoy serving them and getting to know them....these cake enthusiast are so bubbly just like me!

So I got an invitation to present my food art at Sunway University...and it's as wonderful as Taylor's too! Boy I'm enjoying this! Unfortunately these bazaars only happens once in a while. I know so many students contacting me asking if I will be selling in their universities again...I am praying so trust me! Hope to see these wonderful people again! I heart all of you! Here is the picture of my famous MUDPIE and also some other cakes I made recently...stop teasing your taste buds! .get on the phone and give me a ring now! Have a wonderful weekend!

Meet our flavorful collection!

Hello cake enthusiast! It's been 2 weeks since I last posted. Seriously all these bazaar affairs is driving me nuts! Let me sleep will ya? *wink*. Well just so you know, DOY does not only create designer cakes and cupcakes but we do offer flavorful cupcakes. Sometimes you just want to sit down and taste those extra yummilicious cupcake for tea, right?

So let me explain to you the difference between the 'Designer Cakes' and the 'Flavorful Cakes'.

1. Designer Cakes : Cakes are more emphasize of the design rather than the base cake itself. Example is, the designer cake base are usually in the Vanilla, Chocolate and Red Velvet family. However ( please take note) we have also done other flavors requested by customers like coffee, mocha and etc. In the end of the day, we will still follow what you want coz we LOVE you!

2. Flavorful Cakes: Cakes are more emphasize on their flavoring such as black forest cupcakes, coffee frost cupcakes, caramel cupcakes etc. But mind you, our flavorful collection has it's own unique design. All cupcakes are given extra attention to details. Let's just say that the details are given from the piping of the cream until to the sprinkling of the sugar dust!

Although designer cakes are so much of an IN-THING right now, surprisingly our flavorful is also in great demand! That is simply because flavorful is also yummy and their presentation is just ...wait for it....INCREDIBLE!

So here is some teasers of our flavorful collections recently. I am selling this on our bazaar in Taylor's Lakeside Campus.... trust me cake enthusiast, this is ONLY the beginning....

3000 cuppies for AirAsia!

A month ago, we got a surprising call from AirAsia requesting 3000 cupcakes. They just won the 'Best Airline Award 2011' from Skytrax and guess what, they wanted all those cupcakes in 5 days! So, not only that I panicked, I managed to go out and sniff the flower in the garden to see weather I'm still in my dreams.

Thankfully, with a last minute planning we managed to pull it off. We had recruited part-time staff to work with us hand in hand for that 5 days! It was tiring..exhausting...but it was all worth it! Just out the pictures we had below for PROOF *wink*

and last but not least.....

to the DOY boys who sacrifices their sleeping hours in order to make THIS happen!

Congratulations AirAsia for your award!

Adorable and profitable weekend!

So many things happened to me this week. I got a few orders and I participated in a bazaar! Yes! It was located at The Boardwalk in Taylor's Lakeside Campus! A new campus and a huge one indeed! That was fun. My heart was beating anxiously because I do not know how people are going to react with me being there, selling my cakes! To my surprise, I blended well there! Just like how I was back in Lim Kok Wing hahahha! So I wanted to show you my previous cakes that I made but blah I can't wait to show you the photos of my sweet adorable cuppies during the weekend bazaar. Here we go!

Sunday Cuppies!

Catered this for a 1 year old girl birthday party. It's a simple butter cream design and we had difficulties in arranging them on the table because there were massive children traffic surrounding us, ready to jump on the cupcakes! But it's all good as it took them less than an hour for the crowd to actually finish all those cuppies. Not to mention the adult are having a blast too! With one cupcakes in each hand! What a joy!

Fondant cupcakes with chocolate and vanilla base, topped with butter cream which tasted like ice cream!

Baroque Cuppie...

Well I majored in Interior Architecture 7 years ago. I remembered when my lecturer mentioned the word 'Baroque and Rococo'. I could not pronounce it well at that time. Although I slept in class most of the time, I am amazed on how I could somehow remembered the word BAROQUE! So one fine day, went to my lecturer to pass my artwork when I asked (and I regretted doing so). "What's Baroque?". He looked at me and replied "Baroque my dear is everything. Stop sleeping and open up your book".

So I did, reluctantly...and I fell in love.....for the first time...

Although this is not 100% of a Baroque design, I still place it in the same category as most of the hand drawn lines represented Baroque architectural age...

For those of you who are wondering what's BAROQUE, I'm not going to be as mean as my lecturer and I'm going to save you some time on Google (don't hate me Google :P )

BAROQUE: Baroque architecture is a term used to describe the building style of the Baroque era, begun in late sixteenth century Italy, that took the humanist Roman vocabulary of Renaissance architecture and used it in a new rhetorical and theatrical fashion, often to express the triumph of the Catholic Church and the absolutist state. It was characterized by new explorations of form, light and shadow and dramatic intensity ( got that from Google too ha ha).

Swag..Anyone?

I absolutely love this piece that I have worked on during one of my class. The intricateness of the design has also helped me to realize that this swag is no joke!  A touch of elegance or shall I say 'une touche d'élégance?' Your pick..Works for me both ways *wink*

My wonderful PME tutor called me the 'Crimp Queen!' I love that title! I love crimping!

When two lovers meet....

O, speak again, bright angel! for thou art
As glorious to this night, being o'er my head
As is a winged messenger of heaven
Unto the white-upturned wondering eyes
Of mortals that fall back to gaze on him
When he bestrides the lazy-pacing clouds
And sails upon the bosom of the air.

A Swan's love affair...made from Royal Icing. It took me 2 days to finish this piece but it was  all worthy *sweats*. I must say, my right hand is sore in the process of making this beauties. And the fact that I had to bend down thousands of time makes my neck screams 'darn you master!!' But what can I say, when it's all done and when I stood 1 metre away to awe it, I finally said to myself 'What a beauty! I've got to do this all over again! '

Baking No No !

I found this good piece on the website today and I wanted to share them with you. (yippie). Basically it's about common mistakes that we usually make during baking. Now after reading this, I hope it helps you because it does helps me a lot! *wink*

  • Your oven may be heating unevenly — the seals on your oven door can wear out over time and can be easily replaced. If they're not working properly, your cakes won't bake at the right temperature.

  • Opening the oven while the cake is baking can interrupt the cooking process. Try to resist the urge.

  • Not sifting the flour can result in unevenly cooked cakes, or a lumpy consistency.

  • Adding too much liquid or under/over beating the batter.

  • Using the wrong sized or shaped pan — make sure you always check you have the correct equipment before you start baking.

  • Not allowing the cake to cool adequately before cutting.

    William and Kate's Wedding Cake

I woke up one morning and thought of the Royal Wedding. Being a daydreamer myself, OF COURSE I had fantasize how it would felt  like to design Kate's wedding cake. It was a day before the royal wedding and I started googling 'royal wedding cake'. Darn it, all I got is other types of royal wedding cakes...which is no biggie to me..no Wows to me...So then the day of the wedding, instead of watching the whole run of the Royal Wedding episode LIVE on TV, I decided to try my luck again on the net. This time I googled ' Kate Middleton's Wedding Cake'. Aha! There you go! Beautiful picture of 8 Tiered Cake made of Royal Icing decorations. It's not surprise when I soon found out who designs the cake for them. It's non other than the famous Fiona Cairns! Take a look at this gorgeous baby below!

And the very lovely Fiona Cairns

Fiona Cairns Cake designer, Fiona Cairns, has been commissioned by Prince William and Kate Middleton to create a multi-tiered traditional fruit cake lavishly decorated with a floral theme for their April 29th wedding.

"The cake, which will be decorated with cream and white icing, will have a strong British floral theme using elements of the Joseph Lambeth technique" Fiona Cairns for the Royal Wedding Cake 2011

More edible cakes on the loose!

Here are more of my babies! I mean edible babies..not that I'm imagining eating babies...ummm oh hell....*awkward*

An edible handbag! Many years ago women wore beautiful, elegant handbags to attend any form of soiree..Little that they know hundreds of years later their grandchildren could actually eat those bags! Well I can't eat my Charles & Keith bag but I could surely design the same replica with a Chocolate base and Strawberry Fondant...the glam part of designing cakes is when you paid so much for its design and they tasted so gooooddd *drools now*

One of my lovely piece...and yes Bride and Bridegroom  armless yes! Rather unique and look at the groom leaning towards the bride...How lucky is she?

My own version of  'Voulez-vous coucher avec moi (ce soir)' corset cake...I'm feeling sexy!

I am going all southern Baroque on this....and yes Baroque designs goes soft with flower bouquet....

I placed this Baby cot cake during my first bazzar at a community college and this made headlines more than the designer herself...hmmm....

My ultimate fondness about everything African so here is the African Lady !

    Edible Cakes on the loose!!

So it's a beautiful Sunday. It rained this morning and since parents are not home I've decided to take charge of the home chores (reluctantly). I am done and what better way to celebrate with some cakes! Oh anyway need to run to get some almonds so I am gonna pass today. Have not watched Pirates of Carribean or Transformers so I am heading out later...

However...*drum rolls* I wanted to show you my very first cake collections I've made during my PME classes! I love them and it took me days to finish them..so here it is tadaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
